About Us

The Kakadu Community Noticeboard, Weekly What's on Guide and the 2009 Community & Business 'quick reference' Telephone Directory are the result of a handful of like minded community members wanting to improve the towns communication network, after the closure of the local weekly Jabiru Rag in July 2008.

Tony Lacy of Jabiru is the volunteer 'project manager' behind the concept, has designed interactive websites, and comes from a food science backgound, specialising in winemaking.
His wife works for Kakadu National Park, loves the lifestyle, climate and work challenges, hence the move to Kakadu in 2004 with their children.

"We are seeking a not for profit business model and hope to use this for other remote communities. The aim is to let all residents of the region know of 'What's on' in their town on a weekly basis with links to services, business and organisations. It's particularly useful for those who don't have access to emails on a daily/weekly basis, hence the need for a mail out program and sponsorship." Tony Lacy

The site will advertise all services to the community and tourism services for both community and visitors. Tourism Information Centres around and in Kakadu will have brochures of the Noticeboard to check out events before or during their stay in Kakadu. Friends and family of existing residents will also have the benefit of checking out the weekly what's on guide online before they visit, or catch up on the local news and pictures if away from the region.

Proceeds from the sponsorship and advertising after costs, will go into supporting the Jabiru Childcare's weekly fresh vegetable purchases, the Jabiru Area School and Indigenous Health Campaigns.

The concept could not continue without the overwhelming support of the local community, businesses, organisations and sporting groups.

Thank you.
